About CACLD

Over 40 Years of Caring and Commitment

  • CACLD established the first pre-school program in southern Connecticut for children with learning disabilities.
  • CACLD was instrumental in expanding state education laws making it mandatory to provide special education for children with learning disabilities and other special needs.
  • CACLD has donated hundreds of books and tapes on learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders to libraries, schools, parent centers, pre-schools, and colleges which train teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • CACLD provided an essential funding grant in support of a pioneering program for learning disabled high school graduates seeking further education at the community college level.
  • CACLD’s telephone “Help Line” answers thousands of inquiries from parents, other family members, adults and professionals. Whether they are trying to understand and/or cope with LD and ADD/ADHD, or trying to help, they all contact CACLD for information.
  • CACLD provided vital staff expertise for the Directory of Resources for Adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Attention Deficit Disorders in Connecticut.
  • CACLD’s highly acclaimed conferences consistently receive rave reviews from parents, educators and other professionals.
  • CACLD catalogs the parent and professional resources in our area and helps identify service gaps.
  • CACLD initiated and created a Resource Kit on Post Secondary Options for the Student with LD and/or ADD. This kit was used as a model by the State and was placed in every high school guidance office in Connecticut.
  • CACLD sends free materials to thousands of callers each year who request information on LD/ADD/ADHD and related disorders.
